Sergio Romero is a goalkeeper of Italian club Sampdoria. He was born on 22 February 1987 in Bernardo de Irigoyen, Argentina.
Sergio started his senior career at Racing Club in 2006. In the summer 2007 the Argentinian player was transferred to AZ Alkmaar for €1.5 million and immediately became the club’s regular goalkeeper. In 2008/09 season he was the only player of the Dutch team who managed to feature in all matches of the club.
In August 2011 UC Sampdoria signed the Argentinian for an undisclosed fee. After two fruitful seasons with the Italian club Romerp was loaned to AS Monaco in August 2013.
In 2007 Sergio was the Argentina U-20 regular goalkeeper. This very year he played as a second-choice goalkeeper of Argentina Olympic team in Beijing. In the fixture against Netherlands the team’s first goalkeeper Oscar Ustari got injured and Sergio had to substitute him. He was a first-choice for the next two matches and hadn’t conceded any goal.
The Argentina national team then head coach Diego Maradona made Sergio the first-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. At 2014 World Cup in Brazil Romero was Argentina’s goalkeeper, kept four clean sheets and reached the final.
