Sergio Sánchez Ortega is a Spanish central midfielder who plays for Málaga in La Liga.
Sergio was brought up as a footballer at Espanyol. He made his debut for the first team on April 24, 2005 entering the pitch on the 85th minute. That was a victory against Real Zaragoza.
Then in January 2007 he was sent on loan to Real Madrid B that played in the second division. However at the end of the season that ended with team’s relegation he was sent on loan again, this time to Racing Santander that played in La Liga.
Sánchez returned to Espanyol in July of 2008. He scored his first goal for the Catalan side on September 20 thus earning a draw against Getafe. During the whole season he played on the right flank thus helping his club avoid relegation.
Sergio moved to Sevilla In July of 2009. However the club suddenly announced that the player would not be allowed to the field until a thorough examination of his heart was held. That was caused by Sergio’s complaints about some pains in that area. He made 7 appearances for the Andalusian side in La Liga and 2 appearances in the Copa del Rey by that time. After 1 year out of football he returned to active play in January but wasn’t even used as a substitute.
Having spent two seasons with 14 games for the club he moved to Málaga signing a 4-year contract. Sergio made his first appearance for this club on September 25. It was a La Liga match against Zaragoza and Sergio played on the right flank. He also scored once for Málaga in a Copa del Rey 2-3 defeat to Real Madrid. The footballer has appeared 19 times for the club since the start of the 2011/12 campaign.
