Sidney Govou was a French footballer born on 27 July 1979 in Le Puy-en-Velay, France.
The player’s youth career began in 1996 when he went through a tryout at Lyon. A young winger was given the opportunity to study at the club’s football academy and to participate at youth team matches. In 1999 his youth career came to an end.
A young and talented winger was awarded a professional contract with Lyon. That contract signified the starting point of Sidney’s professional career. He was an effective element of the team throughout the whole period spent in the club. Besides he always showed his attachment to the club. Over a decade Govou made 294 total appearances for the club and netted 49 goals.
In 2010 Lyon decided to sell a French winger. In the summer of the same year the player received a call-up from Greek club Panathinaikos FC with which he signed a contract. In the 2010/11 season he participated in 18 matches scoring 1 goal.
In 2011 Évian strengthened its squad with experienced players before Ligue 1 debut. And Sidney perfectly suited the club. He could share his enormous experience with a young generation of players and contribute a lot to the team’s professional development. The winger joined Évian on a two-year deal and retired from professional footbal once the contract was over.
From 2002 till 2010 Govou was capped to the France national football team. In 8 years he featured in 49 matches and scored 10 goals.
