The Malian football player Sidy Koné is a defensive midfielder at Lyon, playing in the Ligue 1.
In 2010 Koné joined Lyon right after he was featuring for Jeanne D’Arc Bamako in his home country. In the 2010/11 season he played in the reserve team of the club in the Championnat de France amateur (the fourth division of French football). He appeared in 13 matches and managed to score one goal in the season; the team won the championship among reserve squads. Ahead of the 2011/12 season Koné took the title of the senior team player with the help of the new manager Rémi Garde. He made his debut on 20 August 2011 in the Ligue 1 match with Brest. In that game the player was shown his first red card.
In 2013 the Malian was loaned to Ligue 2 side Caen.
Koné played in the youth international team of Mali. He participated in qualification matches for the 2011 African Youth Championship at U-20 level and in the tournament itself. Despite the fact that Koné helped his team to get the fourth finishing position in the competition, he was not included in the team to participate in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup. On 4 August 2011 he was first called up to the senior squad to take part in a friendly against Tunisia.
