Simon Church is a striker of Charlton Athletic. He was born on 10 December 1988 in High Wycombe, England.
In 1998 Church joined the academy of local Wycombe Wanderers, where he began to comprehend football in all minutest details, and the more the young player learned the more conscious his training was. Simon had to face high competition in the youth system as every trainee wants to be noticed and to proceed to the next stage, which can be either older squad or other academy. That is what happened with the footballer, because he was invited to Reading in 2003 after the club’s scouts analyzed his skills. Church was fostered in the youth system of the new team during four years before graduating to the main team in 2007.
After he left the academy, the footballer penned a senior contract with Reading and went on loan to Crewe Alexandra, where he made 12 appearances and scored one goal. In January 2008, Church finalized a six-month loan deal with Yeovil Town and featured in six games during the second half of the 2007/2008 season. In the summer 2008, the striker became a temporary player of Wycombe Wanderers and took part in nine matches during half a year.
In January 2009, Simon was sent on loan another time, as Leyton Orient welcomed the footballer into the fold, where he fired four goals in 13 games. After Church returned to his parent Reading, he was given a closer look from the head coach, who let the striker on the pitch so that he could show himself. Simon did well and managed to clinch the place of a regular, where he performed during three years. By the summer 2013 Church made 104 appearances and amassed 22 goals for Reading. After a brief spell with Huddersfield Town Church completed a move to Charlton Athletic.
In 2007 the footballer was capped 15 times and contributed eight goals for the Wales national U-21 team. From 2009, he featured in 15 games and kicked one goal for the full national squad.
