Simon Mignolet is a goalkeeper of Liverpool. He was born on 6 August 1988 in Sint-Truiden, Belgium.
In 2005 Simon graduated from the academy of Sint-Truiden, which was located in his native town. The footballer was offered to pen a professional contract, which he did before the beginning of the new Belgium Pro League season. Mignolet was given an opportunity to show his best skills during his début season, and he made stellar display, having proved the head coach made a right choice. During five years, the Belgian keeper was a part of his club, managed to fire a goal in 104 appearances, and ended his performance for Sint-Truiden only in 2010.
Simon’s talent drew the attention of various European clubs, which made his future rather clear – the goalkeeper had to leave his native team and reach the new top. In the summer 2010, Mignolet sealed a five-year deal with Sunderland. The player had to face competition for the place of a first-choice goalkeeper with Westwood, but that duel ended with a glorious victory of the Belgian. After having appeared in 90 matches for the Black Cats Simon was lured away to Liverpool.
From 2001 till 2010, Simon was capped 25 times for the Belgium national U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19 and U-21 squads. From 2011, the keeper was called up to the full national team and made ten appearances for it.
