Simone Pepe is a ward of A.S. Roma youth system, but he has never played for the club. Roma sent Pepe out on loan 2 times. He made 5 appearances for Lecco but wasn’t able to score any goals. The 2002/03 season was more successful for Simone as he became a regular fixture in Teramo starting lineup, scoring 11 goals in 31 appearances.
In 2003 Pepe was purchased by Palermo. Right before his debut match in Serie A he was loaned out to Piacenza. Two years later Pepe returned to Palermo to replace Luca Toni who left for Fiorentina. Simone didn’t manage to become a regular at Fiorentina and was loaned to Udinese in the winter transfer window.
Although Simone’s being a young and prospective player he couldn’t compete with Gyan Asamoah, who performed outstandingly in 2006 FIFA World Cup. Pepe was then sent out on another loan to Cagliari Calcio. After his return to Udinese he finally managed to settle at the club and become a regular.
On 9 June 2010 Juventus signed Pepe on loan for €2.6 million with an option to make him a permanent player for €7.5 million. A year later Juventus took advantage of the right to sign him and acquired his services for another 4 years.
During his football career Simone Pepe was called up to many Italian youth squads to score many decisive goals. In October 2008 he made his debut appearance at the Italian national team in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria.
