In 1996 Vergassola received a proposal to join the Italian football club Sampdoria. Preliminary contract contained favourable terms; moreover it was important for him to play in the Italian Serie A. In the summer 1996 Vergassola signed a contract with Sampdoria. The Italian footballer played for this team until 2001, scoring 11 goals in 114 matches.
In 2001 Simone Vergassola signed a contract with Torino, where he spent two seasons. This time was very successful for the midfielder because he took part virtually in all the games. He appeared on a football field 77 times and kicked 5 goals for Torino.
In 2003 Vergassola signed the last contract in his career with Siena where he plays until now and regularly gets into the starting eleven. He scored 23 goals in more than 270 matches for Siena and is a veteran captain of the team.
