Sofian Chahed is a German footballer of Tunisian descent born on 18 April 1983 in Berlin. He plays in defence, preferably on the right flank.
Sofian spent his youth career playing for FV Wannsee and Hertha Zehlendorf. In 1999 he joined the youth side of Hertha BSC, scoring in total 11 goals in 102 games during 1999-2003 seasons. In 2003, he progressed to Hertha’s professional team where he gained a position in the central midfield. Despite his young age, Sofian was frequently deployed in the first team. Overall, he scored 4 goals in 89 appearances during his six-year stint at Hertha BSC. The last 2008/09 season went down the drain for Chahed as he had picked up an injury in one of the matches.
In 2009, the contract with Hertha terminated and wasn’t extended any more. Thus, in August 2009, Chahed signed a two-year deal with Hannover 96 and finally came up with stability. He featured in 50 games scoring 2 goals during four seasons at the club. In March 2011, he decided to extend the contract with the Reds for another two years. In the summer 2013 Chahed was released from the squad.
Sofian Chahed started out his international career playing for the Germany U-19 national team where he appeared in 5 matches. In 2002, he progressed to the U-20 stage and after that had a bite at the cherry to perform for the Germany national team. Nevertheless, Chahed baulked at the chance as he made up his mind to play for the Tunisian national side. He made his debut for Tunisia in a match against Kenya on 11 December 2009.
