Sofiane Feghouli is an Algerian footballer who started as a professional in France in Grenoble. He made his first start aged 17 in 2007 against Reims.
The next season was rather successful for the youngster: the management showed their full confidence in the player as he was entrusted to a shirt with number 8 on it. Also he made 26 appearances and scored 3 times. It all helped Grenoble to get promotion to the Ligue 1. Suddenly on April 11, 2009 he got a serious injury that dragged him out of the game till the end of the season. Six games after the start of the new season he got another injury that required surgery. Fortunately this didn’t scare the big clubs’ interest who kept an eye on the Algerian while his own club was suspicious about the player’s future. As a result he moved to Valencia in 2010 having signed a contract for 4 years.
Feghouli didn’t get a place in the starting squad at once. Only 5 tours since the start of the championship he managed to earn an appearance against Sporting de Gijon.
His international career made him encounter a difficult choice between two national teams: Algeria and France. Eventually he picked France that allowed him to play in several games for the youth team. However eventually the president of the Algerian football association had a personal meeting with Feghouli and convinced him to switch the sides. As a result Sofiane made his debut for the Algerian squad on February 29, 2012 in a game against Gambia.
