Song Zhenyu is a Chinese goalkeeper, born on 21 September 1981 in Dalian, China.
Song began his youth football career in 1995, when joined the football academy of FC Sichuan Quanxing. The player needed to spend three years in that institution before progressing to the professional level. So, Song signed his first senior contract with the club in 1999.
The player represented his home club for two and a half years during which he managed to make just 13 first-team appearances. At the beginning of 2002 Song was sent on loan to FC Chongqing Lifan and had another loan spell with FC Dalian Shide a year later. In 2004 he finally changed the club on a permanent basis, clinching a full-time deal with FC Dalian Shide. There he failed to become a first-choice goalie and left the club in 2005 after just 9 appearances for the side.
His next destination was FC Sichuan Guancheng, where he finally managed to get enough playing time during his only season at the club, adding 25 first-team appearances to his career stats. In 2006 Zhenyu joined FC Shenyang Ginde, where he gradually became an important first-team member. Later he helped his club to avoid relegation in 2008 and became the China national team first-choice goalkeeper the same year. In 2010 he left the club after 97 appearances in a Shenyang shirt and joined FC Chengdu Blades on the final day of that year Chinese transfer window. During his first season at the club he helped his team to earn a promotion to the top division. However, the team was unable to cope with more established Chinese Super League sides and soon Song left the club, signing a deal with FC Tianjin Teda in 2011.
After the season 2012 Song Zhenyu completed a move to Changchun Yatai.
At the international level Zhenyu represents his national team since 2005 and has already made 12 appearances for the China squad.
