Souleymane Diawara is a Senegalese footballer who plays as a defender at Marseille.
The professional career of the Senegalese player began at Le Havre. All in all he participated in 105 matches for the club during 5 years. In the summer of 2003 he transferred to Sochaux where he was playing during 3 seasons; there he was noticed by scouts from Charlton. The club spent €5.5 million for an unfamiliar player confident in his talent. However the footballer did not manage to impress the new team. After half of the season he had to leave for France. Despite loose discipline of the footballer Bordeaux resolved to accept him. During the 2007/08 season he played 32 matches on the whole, 6 of them in the UEFA Europa League.
In the winter 2010 Diawara got a 2-match disqualification for stepping on a player, lying on the ground.
Things were not going much better in the national team. Despite the fact that Souleymane was one of the most skillful footballers in the team he was dropped from the squad just before the beginning of a friendly match with the Côte d’Ivoire national team in 2006 due to a breach of discipline. But later they pardoned him for the disciplinary faults allowing him to take part in 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
