Stephan Lichtsteiner was born in Adligenswil, Switzerland. He started playing football since his early childhood at local FC Adligenswil before moving to FC Luzern. In 2000, aged 16, he left for Grasshopper Club Zürich.
During 2001/02, the young defender started featuring in the club’s first team and a year later he turned regular in the starting eleven and helped his team to win the league title. Stephan has quickly become a leader at his new club, appeared in 79 matches for Grasshoppers and scored 4 goals.
In 2005 Stephan was transferred to Lille to strengthen their defense. Stephan appeared in 89 matches for the French club before signing for S.S. Lazio.
Lichtsteiner caught an eye of Juventus in 2011 and after brief talks with Lazio and passing the medical test the Swiss singed a 4-year deal with the Turin club.
Stephan Lichtensteiner played for all of Switzerland youth teams. He made his debut appearance with the Switzerland national team in 2005, but didn’t manage to secure a permanent spot in the roster.
