Stephen Harper is an experienced English goalkeeper. He was born on 14 March 1975 in Easington, England.
In 1993 Stephen signed his first professional contract with English side Newcastle United. He was a trainee of the club’s academy before getting absolutely ready for the start of his pro-football career. After two first seasons the goalkeeper was sent on loan to Bradford City, where he performed for one year, but that could hardly be called ‘performance’, as Harper made only one appearance for the temporary club.
For the following six months he went on loan to Gateshead and took part in 12 matches for it till January 1997, when the goalkeeper moved to Stockport County and sat firmly on the substitutes’ bench, making no appearances at all. In the winter the same year Stephen continued his loan experience by going to Hartlepool United, where he played 15 matches as a first-choice goalkeeper.
In the summer 1997 Harper joined new temporary team Huddersfield Town and spent a full-scale season there. The head coach of the club let Stephen on the pitch as a main goalkeeper in 24 games.
After the last loan spell and returning back to his parent Newcastle United, Harper did not leave the club and continued to play for it, having made 157 appearances from 1993.
Harper was released from the club at the end of 2012/2013 season at the age of 38 that seemed to be his retirement but newly promoted Premier League side Hull City offered him a one-year deal.
