Steven Berghuis is a midfielder of AZ. He was born on 19 December 1991 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Steven began his career in local amateur WSV Apeldoorn at the age of 16, made his first appearance in the friendly against Feyenoord and found the net for the first time, but the goal did not prevent his team from losing 4-1. Soon after his début, the young player completed a move to the youth team of Eerste Divisie side Go Ahead Eagles.
In 2010 Berghuis penned a two-year contract with Twente and made his first professional appearance on 19 January 2011 in the Eredivisie home 5-0 victory over Heracles. The footballer’s first goal came nine months later, on 21 September, in the away game versus DOS ’37. In the 2011/2012 season, Steven came on the field during the Champions League qualifiers against Vaslui and the Johan Cruijff Shield fixture with Ajax.
On 20 January 2012, Berghuis finalized a move on a six-month loan deal to VVV-Venlo, where he took part in 20 fixtures and went on to net four times. In June 2012, Twente agreed the terms of Steven’s transfer to AZ. Later the midfielder sealed a permanent deal with the new club till 30 June 2017 and was given number 22 shirt.
The player made his international début in the European U-19 Championship for the Netherlands national team. Berghuis managed to become a hero after firing the winner in the match against England. The footballer also was capped for the U-21 squad and found the net of Israel in May 2011, which helped his team to secure a 2-0 victory. The same month, the striker chipped in another goal, this time in the friendly against Albania.
