Sven Bender is a German midfielder for Borussia Dortmund and the extended national squad. He was born in Rosenheim, FRG. Sven was repeatedly called up to the German national youth teams of all levels. He has a twin brother Lars Bender who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen.
As a child Sven, together with his brother, began playing football at TSV Brannenburg youth academy and then joined SpVgg Unterhaching youth system. Having proved to be talented players, in 2003 the two brothers drew the attention of 1860 Munich scouts.
In 2006 Sven and Lars were named in the club’s reserve team, and soon signed their first professional contracts with TSV 1860 München main squad. The Benders made their debut almost simultaneously forming a striking tandem in the centre spot. Sven played 65 games for 1860 München and contributed 1 goal.
In the off-season before the 2009/10 season Sven became of interest to Borussia Dortmund, where he finally moved. Sven’s brother Lars, in his turn, joined Bayer Leverkusen.
The midfielder made his debut appearance for the club on 19 September 2009 in a friendly match of the Bundesliga 6th Round against Hannover 96. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. The footballer spent all 90 minutes on the pitch showing reasonably good play. During his first season with the BVB Sven took part in 19 matches.
In 2008 the German midfielder was a part of the squad that won the 2008 European U-19 Championship. In 2011 Sven began to play for the senior German national team and has already taken part in 2 matches for it.
