Theodor Gebre Selassie was born on 24 December 1986 in Třebíč, the Czech Republic.
Gebre Selassie is the son of an Ethiopian doctor and a Czech schoolteacher. His career took off at the Velké Meziříčí junior team. In 1998 Theodor joined Vysočina Jihlava, where he trained in the youth squad for 7 years. In 2005 the footballer was promoted to the senior level. Theodor’s appearances were rare, so he was loaned to his former club Velké Meziříčí. However, he managed to appear only 8 times on the pitch, and was returned to Jihlava.
In 2007 the player transferred to Slavia Prague, where he made 11 appearances and took part in the UEFA Champions League. Gebre Selassie was one of the best footballers in the squad and attracted the attention of Slovan Liberec. Theodor joined the club for half a million euros. During four seasons with Slovan the footballer amassed 8 goals in 97 matches. After the UEFA Euro 2012, Selassie penned a four-year contract with Werder Bremen.
Theodor has played 6 games for the U-21 national team and in 2011 Gebre Selassie received his first call-up for the Czech national senior team. He also represented the Czech Republic during the UEFA Euro 2012.
