An Italian footballer of Brazilian descent Thiago Motta is a midfielder of French FC Paris Saint-Germain.
The footballer grew as a part of FC Barcelona. With that club Thiago played from 2001 till 2007.
For the Brazil national football team Motta played 2 matches in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. His debut in Italian team took place in 2011. That occurred due to FIFA rules according to which only a footballer who possesses dual nationality can change his representing nation once in his career and unless a football player has already participated in a non-friendly match for his national football team.
Thiago’s professional career started in 1999 with FC Barcelona B. His debut in the first team of Catalan club occurred on 3 October 2001 in the match against RCD Mallorca.
The footballer featured in 7 games in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League helping his team to reach the semifinals. Despite his good performance he was not able to appear in the starting eleven due to strong competition for a midfield position. During the 2002/03 La Liga season the player managed to appear only in 13 matches. Yet in the ensuing season Thiago was given more playing time in spite of numerous injuries that constantly dogged him. Regardless of that he contributed significantly to Barcelona’s win in both La Liga championship and the UEFA Champions League.
In the summer of 2007 the management of Barcelona FC declared about Motta’s transfer. The same year in August he already played for Atlético Madrid. During the 2007/08 season the footballer appeared in Atlético’s colours only six times. The midfielder missed the major part of the season due to injuries (in half a year his left leg was operated on three times). In 2008 the footballer intended to join English FC Portsmouth. During a week Thiago was tried out and he even participated in the exhibition match but the club refused to sign with the player because of his poor health. On the expiry of the contract with Atlético Madrid in 2008 Motta was out of job as the club made a decision not to expand the contract.
In September 2008 the footballer moved to Italian Genoa C.F.C. on a free transfer. During the 2009/10 season Thiago already played for FC Internazionale Milano. During the pre-season period the midfielder scored a goal to Juventus FC and a goal to AC Milan afterwards. Despite Motta’s great services for the team the footballer was deprived of his place in the major squad with serious injuries. However with the lapse of time Thiago was restored but had to compete with Dejan Stanković for the first team place.
On the last day of January in 2012 Thiago Motta joined Paris Saint-Germain FC on a three-and-a-half year deal.
