Tim Matavž is a striker of PSV. He was born on 13 January 1989 in Šempeter pri Gorici. Slovenia.
Tim’s youth career took off in Bilje, where he performed before joining the youth team of Gorica in 2004. The footballer trained in the academy and played for the youth squad during two years.
In the 2006/2007 season, Tim made his first appearance for the main team of the club, and his encouraging performance earned the player a regular place in the starting squad, where he amassed 11 goals in 30 matches during the season.
In the summer 2007, Tim had an opportunity to move to various European clubs. Italian side Fiorentina failed to seal a deal with the striker, as he transferred to the Dutch side F.C. Groningen. On 30 August 2007, one day before the transfer window closing, the footballer put pen to paper of a five-year contract with the new club.
During his first season in the Netherlands, the footballer made occasional appearances for the main team, usually coming on the pitch as a substitute.
The club was not very interested in Tim’s services in 2008 and decided to send him on loan so that the striker could keep fit. Matavž spent the 2008/2009 season in Emmen, where he featured in 15 games and fired five goals.
From 2009 till 2011, the player showed confident performance for his parent F.C. Groningen. The head coach gave Tim a place in the main team, and the striker showed his gratitude by firing 34 goals in 82 games during two years.
In 2006 Matavž started to take part in matches of the Slovenia national U-21 squad and found the net six times in 17 fixtures for the team. From 2010, the footballer has been capped for the senior squad and contributed nine goals in 17 games as of October 2012.
