Tim Wiese was born on 17 December 1981 in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. Starting his football career he played for youth DJK Dürscheid. He began playing as a forward, then, in Bayer Leverkusen's youth system he sustained an achilles tendon injury. But it didn't deal a blow to the player's dreams of a career in football, and he became a goalkeeper.
Having played for Bayer for ten years, Tim left SC Fortuna Köln. There he appeared in 27 matches for the first time as a professional player. Later he moved to FC Kaiserslautern, where he performed in three seasons playing three times as much as for SC Fortuna Köln, and then moved to SV Werder Bremen. Wiese stayed at a new German club for seven long years and became a key player. There he played in 194 matches. The contract with the club was signed initially until 2008, and then it was renewed until 2012. The goalkeeper made his debut for Werder Bremen on 8 February 2006 in the match against VfB Stuttgart. On 7 March 2006 he appeared in the Champions League against Juventus, but he made a serious mistake, after which he didn't appear in the second match. Soon after, the player moved to Hoffenheim, where he signed a contract until 30 June 2016.
However, in January 2014 Wiese left the club by mutual consent.
At an international level Wiese performed in 13 matches for Germany U-21, but didn't manage to get into the first team, getting a dose of criticism from Joachim Löw. Nevertheless, in 2008 the coach didn't have any choice after Adler's injury, so it made way for Tim to the goal post. In total he has played in 6 matches for the national team. He was chosen to represent Germany in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but did not feature in any game.
