Tolga Cigerci was born on 23 March 1992 in Nordenham, Germany.
Tolga started playing football in 1998 at the youth team of SV Phiesewarden, located in his native town. In 2000 the footballer joined Arminia Vöhrum for the next five years, and then moved to VfL Wolfsburg. Having scrambled through the youth and reserve teams of the Wolves, Tolga eventually got a place in the main squad of the club. All in all, Cigerci made 16 appearances and scored only one goal for the club. Tolga’s Bundesliga debut fell on 28 November 2010 in the away match against FC Köln. The German spent all 90 minutes on the pitch and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Soon the head coach was fired and the young footballers faced some problems with game experience. That is why Cigerci was loaned to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012, where he currently plays.
Tolga opened his account with Borussia on 18 February 2012 in the match against FC Kaiserslautern. He made his first line-up start in May 2012. In the summer 2013 Cigerci switched returned to Wolfsburg.
Since Tolga’s parents have Turkish origins, he had every right to represent Turkey at international level, but eventually chose German side. Cigerci appeared in 5 matches and netted 1 goal for the U-19 team.
