Tony Jantschke was born on 7 April 1990 in Hoyerswerda, Germany.
The future defender began his career in football at the local Hoyerswerdaer SV Einheit. Soon he moved to FV Dresden-Nord youth team, and then in 2006 joined Borussia Mönchengladbach academy. Tony spent two years at youth level and was included in the reserve team in 2008. He took part in 22 games of the team scoring 2 goals. Jantschke’s debut for the club’s senior squad came on 29 November 2008 in a Bundesliga match against FC Energie Cottbus. Headed by Hans Meyer, Borussia lost 1-3 to Energie at home. Jantschke netted his debut Bundesliga goal in a game versus Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 6 December 2008, when he spent the whole match on the pitch and became one of the youngest players in the club’s history to deliver the first goal at the age of 18.
On 1 January 2009 the footballer signed a professional contract with the club until July 2012. At the start of the 2010/11 season Tony suffered an injury that kept him out of business until 2011. On his return to the club he managed to secure a permanent spot in the roster. In October 2011 Borussia Mönchengladbach extended the contract with the footballer until June 2014.
Jantschke has represented the German national squad at all youth levels between the U-17 and U-21 teams.
