Ulugbek Bakayev is an Uzbek footballer, born in 1978 in Buxoro. He began his professional playing career at the local FK Buxoro, where he played fron 1997 to 2000, and then had a short spell at CSKA Moscow. In 2001/02 he played for Torpedo Moscow, after that he had short spells at FK Buxoro, FK Andijan and Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk.
Between 2004 and 2007 Bakayev played for FC Tobol, in 2008 he joined Bunyodkor, but in 2009 was loaned to FK Samarqand-Dinamo. In 2010/11 he had short periods at FC Tobol, FC Zhetysu and Dubai Club. He signed for Irtysh Pavlodar in 2012 and helped the team to finish second in the Kazakhstan Premier League and to win the domestic cup.
Bakayev has been a part of the Uzbekistan national team since 2001. In 2011 the national squad was fourth in the AFC Asian Cup. He was named Kazakhstan Premier League Top Scorer in 2004, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and in 2011 was awarded as Kazakhstan Premier League Best Player.
