Valentin Stocker is a Swiss footballer who currently plays as a left midfielder for FC Basel. He was born on 12 April 1989 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Valentine is a product of SC Kriens youth system where he was groomed since 1996 to 2005. In 2005, he joined the U-21 team of FC Basel which struggled in the fourth tier. Stocker scored 13 goals in 37 matches with the squad for two years before being promoted to the first team of the club in 2007.
Stocker got a first taste of serious action in a Swiss Cup semi-final match against FC Thun on 27 February 2008. The promising young player made his League debut in a 3-1 win over the same Thun in March 2008. Due to his credit Basel won the Double, the Super League and the Swiss Cup, twice. Stocker was an instrumental player for the team during the 2009/10 Swiss Cup final match as he scored twice in the showdown leading Basel to a 6-0 win over FC Lausanne-Sport and consequently to the Swiss Cup trophy. The Swiss player cut a brilliant figure during the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League as he helped to beat giants Manchester United in the group stage, throwing them out of the tournament, and scored a winner against German powerhouse Bayern Munich in the round of 16.
Valentin Stocker earned 6 caps to the Switzerland U-21 team in between 2007 and 2009. He is capped to the Switzerland national team since 2008. Stocker got off to a flying international start as he scored an opener in his debut game against Cyprus in August 2008.
