Victor Obinna was born on March 25, 1987 in Jos, Nigeria.
Victor began playing football in the youth ranks of the Nigerian clubs Plateau United and Kwara United. There he was noticed by a FIFA agent and offered trials at several European clubs as Internazionale, Perugia and Juventus, whereupon the player signed with Brazilian Internacional, but he never joined the squad because of clearance problems. Thereby the striker had to return to Nigeria and keep his career going in Enyimba.
In July 2005, Victor got another chance to settle in Europe. Chievo signed a five-year contract with the Nigerian footballer who scored 6 goals in his very first season for the club from Verona. In 2006, Victor was disqualified for several months for having 2 running agreements at the same time: with Chievo and Internacional. In the season 2006/07, Chievo was relegated to the Serie B and the team management decided to keep Obinna to assist in the team’s promotion back.
In 2008, Victor transferred to Internazionale and according to Jose Mourinho he was one of the most talented young footballers of the club. In 2009, Obinna was loaned to Málaga and on October 4, netted his debut goal in the 1-1 draw against Xerez. Altogether for the Spanish club the player scored 4 goals in 26 games.
In 2010, Victor joined West Ham on a season-long loan and his eminent assists, including the four he made in a 4-0 victory against Manchester United, helped the team to achieve a first League Cup semi-final for 20 years.
In 2011, Obinna left for Lokomotiv Moscow on free transfer. In 2014 he was loaned to Chievo Verona.
As an international player Victor was a part of the Nigeria U-20 national team that won the African youth championship in 2005. He also represented his country during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and his goals let the Nigeria squad reach the final and become a runner-up team of the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament.
