Victor Wanyama is a Kenyan football player, born in 1991. He currently plays for Southampton as a centre back or defensive midfielder. He spent his youth playing career with such Kenyan teams as JMJ Youth Academy, Nairobi City Stars, AFC Leopards and then moved to a Swedish team Helsingborg. In 2008 Wanyama came back to Kenya and signed a four-year deal with Beerschot AC.
He attracted the attention of a Scottish side Celtic and Russian outfit CSKA Mocow in the summer of 2010, but remained in Kenya. In a year he joined Celtic for a fee of £900,000, signing a four-year deal. His Soccer Premier League debut was on 21 August 2011 in a 0-1 defeat to St. Johnstone. At the end of his first season Celtic won Scottish Premier League title. During two seasons with the Celts Wanyama appeared in 61 games and scored 10 goals.
In July 2013 Southampton secured his services for £12.5m. Thus Victor became the first Kenyan to play for a Premier League club.
Since 2007 Victor Wanyama has been a part of the Kenya national football team.
