Willian Gomes

Willian Gomes de Siqueira is a Brazilian striker featuring for Metalist Kharkiv. The footballer can also appear in the position of a centre forward as well as an attacking midfielder. He was born in a Brazilian municipality in the state of São Paulo.

Willian Gomes began his football career at Guarani football academy in Campinas. The footballer was attending it during the period from 2002 to 2003, later he was promoted to the first team. Having played 6 games for the first squad the striker transferred to Atlético Paranaense featuring for it up to 2010.

However, during four years of appearances for Atlético Willian didn’t manage to fix his position in the first squad. During the whole time spent at the club the footballer appeared in 26 matches scoring 5 goals. In February 2009 the young player was released on a ten-month loan to Vila Nova. Things went better for the footballer there: in one season he took part in 28 games netting 6 goals.

In December 2009 Willian returned to Atlético; in January 2010 he moved to Tombense. However just after the transfer the footballer was released on loan to Figueirense. During the loan period the striker showed his worth scoring 12 goals in 34 matches. Nevertheless the Brazilian continued his transfers: just after his return to Tombense he was acquired by Figueirense for €700 000. After that he went on loan for a year and a half to one of the leading Brazilian clubs – Corinthians.

At Corinthians Willian kept on showing convincing play and often appeared in the starting lineup. In a year and a half he featured in 41 matches netting 6 effective goals. Besides, the Brazilian striker together with his clubmate became holders of a prestigious South American trophy – the Copa Libertadores.

Due to his appearances for Corinthians Willian drew attention of several European clubs including Metalist Kharkiv. As a result in the summer of 2012 Willian Gomes returned to Tombense from Corinthians and in a month the footballer transferred to Yellow-Blues for €4 million. The forward managed to adapt to European football and by the beginning of September he had scored 2 goals in 6 matches of the Ukrainian Premier League.
