Wu Pingfeng was born on 1 November 1981 in Zhongshan, China. He went in for football at the youth academy of Guangdong Xiongying. For some time Pingfeng played for the youth squad of the club until he was offered a move to the main team.
In 2000 Wu started his football career at a professional level. At that time Guangdong Xiongying played in the third division of the Chinese championship. Until 2002 the footballer continued to feature for youth and reserve teams of the club. Only in 2003, when the club was promoted to the second tier, Wu gradually established himself within the first team and netted twice in 24 games until the end of the season. Pingfeng took part in 49 matches overall for Guangdong Xiongying and kicked 5 goals. Despite a successful season, the team was disbanded.
In 2005 Wu Pingfeng moved to Jiangsu Shuntian. In the first season the footballer cemented a starting XI position and scored 2 goals in 23 matches. Pingfeng spent three seasons with this club and kicked 5 goals in 63 games.
In 2008 Wu Pingfeng joined Guangzhou Evergrande. Soon the footballer became one of the most important members of the team. The 2010/2011 campaign was the most successful for Wu because he played 30 games and netted 4 goals. Pingfeng won the 2010 China League One title, the 2011 Chinese Super League title and the Chinese FA Super Cup together with his club.
Having played 126 matches and scored 11 goals for the club Wu Pingfeng moved across the city to join Guangzhou R&F in 2013.
Since 2002 Wu Pingfeng has been playing for the China national football team. The footballer made his first appearance for the senior side in a match against Syria in December 2002. All in all, Wu Pingfeng has featured in 3 games for the China national team.
