Xavier (‘Xavi’) Torres Buigues is a Spanish footballer who currently plays for Getafe CF.
He spent his youth career at Villarreal until he moved to Alicante in 2006 having signed his first in life professional contract for this team from the Segunda B. In the summer of 2007 he signed a contract with Barcelona but spent most of the time at the Catalan side playing for the reserve team. He was granted an opportunity in the main squad only after the B team manager Pep Guardiola was appointed the main coach as he led the reserve team to promotion to the third division. In 2009 Xavier made his 2 appearances for the Catalan giant and soon left for Málaga.
He made his debut for the Andalusian side on August 30, 2009 facing Atlético Madrid in his first match for the club. On September 13, 2009 he made his first appearance as a part of the starting eleven and was substituted on the 89th minute. During the season he contributed the club with 11 appearances and the only goal during the season. This served to be a motivator to send the player on loan to Levante.
The spell to Levante soon turned out to be quite a successful move for the management of the Valencians as the midfielder delivered quality football the deal was extended for one more season. Having made 69 appearances with five goals he finally moved to Getafe in 2012 for a transfer fee of €400.000 having previously turned down an offer from Levante.
One year later, however, he moved to Real Betis.
