José Eduardo Rosa Vale e Castro was born in 1983 in Coimbra, Portugal. Currently a Portuguese footballer plays in Deportivo de La Coruña as a central defender.
He started playing football in his hometown Académica de Coimbra’s youth system. Castro made his 20-minute Primera Liga debut in a 2–1 win over Gil Vicente FC. During his two seasons with the team he appeared 54 times and scored one goal.
In 2006 Castro signed a contract with Atlético Madrid. The first season was prolific as he appeared in 22 La Liga matches but the second season he came out rarely. In 2008, he signed with Deportivo de La Coruña on a season-long loan deal and after the expiry he went on to play for the team on a long-term basis. The 2009/10 season he featured in ten matches and the next season he appeared even less.
Castro was a part of Portugal Under-21 team and appeared in 15 games and scored one goal. He appeared in the European Under-21 Championship in 2006. Castro gained one cap for the Portugal national team in 2009.
