Željko Ljubenović is a professional Serbian footballer currently playing as a midfielder for Zorya Luhansk FC. He was born on July 9, 1981 in Belgrade, SFR Yugoslavia.
Željko Ljubenović started training at the youth system of Partizan FK (Belgrade) and Beograd OFK.
The footballer’s professional career started off in 1999 at Beograd OFK, where he played for 2 years. Over the following few years the midfielder featured for such regional clubs as Mladost Luks FK (2001-2002), Mladenovac OFK (2002-2005), Proleter Zrenjanin FK (2004) and Hajduk Kula (2005).
In the winter of 2006 the Serbian footballer move to the Ukraine to play for Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih FC, but because of some financial issues of the club, he had to change it for Tavriya Simferopol SC 6 months later. Very soon Željko Ljubenović became one of the key players on the pitch. According to the statistics, every other goal of Tavriya Simferopol SC was scored after the midfielder’s pass. Željko Ljubenović was named the best player of the team in the first half of the 2009/2010 season. In total, he made 124 appearances and scored 18 goals, won the Ukrainian Premier League in the season of 2009/2010.
In the winter of 2011 Željko Ljubenović signed up with Oleksandria PFC for 3 months. In 2012 the footballer signed a 2-year contract with Zorya Luhansk FC.
