Zhang Yaokun is a Chinese football player who performs as a defender for Guangzhou R&F. He was born on April 17, 1981 in Dalian.
The player started his academy scholarship with Dalian Yiteng in 1997. A year later he clinched his first full-time contract with Dalian Shide. However, Zhang Yaokun picked up an injury that sidelined him for several months. Having returned to full fitness, the commanding centre-back quickly got a place in the main set-up. In 2001 and 2002 he helped his team secure the Chinese Super League title. The 2004 campaign wasn’t a memorable one for the Chinese international as Zhang Yaokun failed to hold down sustained starts or form. Consequently, in 2005 he was loaned out to Sichuan Guancheng. That loan spell stood him in good stead. On returning to Dalian Shide, the defender was handed the captain’s armband. After the merge of the club with Dalian Aerbin Zhang transferred to Guangzhou R&F.
Zhang Yaokun competed for China at the AFC Asian Cup in 2004 and 2007. Partnering Li Weifeng in the heart of defense in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, the footballer failed to come up to his manager’s expectations.
