Albanian Superliga is the heist division in the Albanian football league system. It was formed in 1930 and initially was named Kategoria e Parë. The number of teams competing in the Superliga has varied throughout its history, in 2012/13 seasons there were 14 participating teams.
The league lasts from August to May and each team play two matches with the other, home and away games. A team receives three points for a victory and one for a draw. If by the end of a season there are teams with the same number of points, the head-to head record and then the goal difference define the winner. The two lowest teams in the league table are relegated to the First Division.
The league champion qualifies for the Second Round of the UEFA Champions League, the runners-up, third placed teams and the domestic cup winners qualify for the Europa League. The most titled football club in Albania is KF Tirana.
