Belarusian First League is the second tier of the professional football system in Belarus. The competition was established in 1992. The title of the league is competed by 16 teams.
The club that finishes first in the competition receives promotion to the Belarusian Premier League. The runner-up plays in the promotion play-off with the team that finishes second bottom in the top flight.
The teams that finish at the bottom of the league face relegation to Belarusian Second League.
The tournament is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation.
