Campeonato Brasileiro Série B is a second-tier football championship in Brazil, established in 1971.
First there was an Olympic system in the league. Later on, since 1973 to 1979 there were no matches at all and in 1987 two blocks were introduced: the blue and the white ones. For a long time no player transfers were allowed between the leagues.
Lately Série B has been a classic second-tier with top four clubs being promoted to the top division and four bottom relegated to Série C.
Goiás, Criciúma, Atlético Paranaense and Vitória have been promoted to the top-flight in 2012.
