Segunda División is a second division of the Spanish football pyramid. The competition was established in 1929 by Royal Spanish Football Federation but since 1983 the league is organized by the LFP.
The title is contested by 22 clubs; each plays 42 matches a season (one home and one away game with every side). Top two teams receive direct promotion to the top flight (LA Liga). The third ticket to the first league is contested in promotion play-off where the teams from 3rd to 6th positions take part. The reserve teams that play in the championship are not eligible for promotion.
The teams that finish bottom of the league are classed down to Segunda División B.
Real Murcia is the team that claimed more title of the league than any other side.
