The Uzbekistan Professional Football League is the top-flight of Uzbek football, founded in 1992 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Since 1992 to 2009 it was known under the name of the Top League. The Uzbekistan Professional Football League also governs the Uzbek First League, the second strongest division in the country.
As of 2013, 14 clubs compete in the League and three of them get a chance to participate in the Asian Champions League. Two bottom teams are relegated to the First League. Since 1992 the legendary Pakhtakor from Tashkent has won 8 titles, Neftchi has claimed the championship 5 times and the recently estblished and ambitious club Bunyodkor has managed to grab 4 titles since 2005.
