Al Ahly is an Egyptian giant club based in Egyptian capital Cairo.
The club was founded in 1907 as a place where leaders of the students’ unions could meet during the colonization struggle. Al Ahly claimed their first silverware in a shape of the Egypt Cup in 1924. The team competes in the Egyptian Premier League since its inaugural 1948/49 season and won 36 titles since that time. They also recorded 35 Egypt Cups and 7 Egyptian Super Cups throughout their glorious history.
The 1980s saw Al Ahly enter on the continental arena. They collected the CAF Champions League trophies in 1982 and 1987 and won three African Cup Winners’ Cups during the decade. Winning a total of 7 CAF Champions League titles, 4 African Cup Winners’ Cups and 4 CAF Super Cups, the club established itself as the most titled side in Africa.
In the 1990s, Al Ahly collected four trophies in the UEFA competitions. The team’s historic campaign was the 2005/06 season as they set up an unprecedented record of remaining unbeaten in all possible competitions of the entire season. The club didn’t lose a single game out of 46 played in the Egyptian Premier League, Egyptian Cup, Egyptian Super Cup and CAF Champions League. In 2006, Al Ahly announced themselves to intercontinental football finishing third in the FIFA Club World Cup and reaching the fourth place of the tournament in 2012.
The team play their home matches at Cairo Stadium which can hold up to 75,000 people. It is the third largest stadium in the Arab World.
