Qatari football club Al-Khor was founded by oil workers in 1951 and got its official status ten years later. In the 1960s, the team merged with two other clubs of the region and became known as Al-Taawun. In 2004, it got its current name Al Khor with a reference to the region where the club’s headquarters are located.
Al-Khor competes in the Qatar Stars League for a long time. However, the farthest the club has progressed to was the third place in the league table. In 2003, the team claimed their first major silverware in the shape of Qatar Sheikh Jassem Cup. In 2005, they welcomed Qatar Crown Prince Cup in their trophy cabinet. Al-Khor has also made 3 appearances in the Gulf Club Champions Cup climbing up to the semi-finals in 2011.
The team are often nicknamed El Forsan which means the Knights in English. They play their home matches at Al-Khawr Stadium in Doha that can hold up to 20,000 spectators.
