Al Wasl FC is a United Arab Emirates football club founded in 1960 in Dubai.
Al Wasl established themselves as one of the strongest clubs in the UAE football and it’s no surprise they have one of the largest fan bases in the whole Arabian Peninsula who formed the first ultras group in the UAE, called Ultras Junoon, in order to support their team. Al Wasl tasted their first UAE Pro League title in 1982 and collected another three still in the 1980s. The team kept their consistency by winning two UAE champion titles in 1992 and 1997, and recorded their first UAE Federation Cup in 1993. They also got a first taste of the AFC competitions participating in the Asian Club Championship three times. In 1993, Al Wasl climed up to the third place of the tournament ceding to finalists Iranian side PAS Tehran and Saudi Arabian team Al Shabab.
However, the team were not so brilliant in the 2000s as they only welcomed the 2006/07 UAE League honor and the 2010 Gulf Club Champions Cup to their trophy cabinet. They also made their first appearance in the AFC Champions League group stage in 2008.
Al Wasl team give credit to famous Argentine player and coach Diego Maradona who coached the club in the 2011/12 season. They play their home matches at Zabeel Stadium in Dubai that can hold up to 15,000 spectators.
