Athlétic Club Arles-Avignon, which is also named Arles-Avignon or Arles, was founded in 1912, when La Pédale Joyeuse, Arles Sports and Arles Auto-Vélo merged. Later the club merged with Club Ouvrier and Sports cheminots. After 1954 the team competed in the Championnat de France amateur, but then relegated.
In 1960 they merged with Jeunesse Sportive Arlés and in 1965 returned back to the Championnat de France amateur. In 1970 the team advanced to Division 2 but dropped to the third division in 1974. In 1977 they returned to Division 2, then was relegated to the third and then to the fourth division.
Since 1990s the team competed in the Championnat National, then played in the fourth and fifth divisions, and gradually advanced to Ligue 1 in 2010. After a season in the top division, the team relegated to Ligue 2.
In 2009 the team moved to a new stadium, Avignon, and changed its name to Arles-Avignon. Their home venue has a capacity of 17,518.
