Arsenal Fútbol Club is an Argentinean soccer club located in the Sarandí neighbourhood of Avellaneda.
On January 11, 1957 Héctor and Julio Humberto Grondona established a new club under the name of Arsenal de Sarandí. In 2002 Arsenal got promotion to the Argentinean top tier. Two years later the team debuted in the Copa Sudamericana and they reached the quarter-final but lost out to Bolivian side Bolívar. On September 6, 2006 Arsenal closed a deal with Spanish giant FC Barcelona. Under that deal Barça could acquire young footballers who played in the Arsenal`s first-team no more than one year. The Spanish club in its turn had to improve the infrastructure of the Argentinean club. However, in 2007 the deal fell through.
The 2006/2007 season brought about the qualification for the Copa Libertadores. A sweet moment for thousands of Arsenal`s fans came on June 24, 2012 when the club defeated Belgrano de Córdoba and secured its first Primera División title.
The club`s most notable player is Jorge Burruchaga who later trained the squad. Arsenal`s home ground is called Estadio Julio H. Grondona and it has seating for 19 300 spectators. The club`s official colours are red and light blue.
