Ascoli Calcio 1898 is a football club founded in 1898 in the city of Ascoli Piceno.
The club has a long and colorful history. Ascoli began to carve out the name for themselves in lower Italian leagues. They saw numerous ups and downs on their way, changed their name several times and even were a footstep away from bankruptcy in some period. The team made their first run into Serie B in 1972 and got a first taste of a top-flight play in the 1974/75 season. The period between 1978 and 1985 was a glorious time for the club as they enjoyed uninterrupted seven-year stay in Serie A and recorded their best top league finishes – the 5th place in 1980 and the 6th in 1982. For the next seven years, Ascoli kept their consistency as a lower-to-mid Serie A table side, except for two seasons spent in the second division. In the 1990s, the team found themselves on a downward spiral gradually dropping down to Serie C1. In the 2002/03 season, they managed a splendid return to Serie B and in 2005 bounced back to the top flight for two seasons. Since the 2007/08 campaign, Ascoli competes in Serie B.
The team’s uniform resembles much that of Juventus as Ascoli men wear white shorts and striped white and black shirts as their home colours. They play their home matches at Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca that can hold up to 20,550 people.
