The club that represents Corsica in the French League 1 is Bastia. The team was established in 1905 and for half a century competed at amateur level. In 1965 Bastia obtained professional status and started performing in the League 2.
In 1969 Bastia was promoted to the League 1 and even reached the UEFA Cup final but was defeated by PSV Eindhoven. The only major trophy of the team is Coupe de France that was claimed in 1981, yet in 1972 and 2002 Bastia had opportunities to clinch that trophy again but finished as runner-up in both cases.
In the season 2011/2012 Bastia claimed the Championnat National and this victory earned the club promotion to the top fight of the French football for the season 2012/2013.
The team's home ground is the Stade Armand Cesari that has a capacity of 10,460 seats. The manager of the club is Frédéric Hantz.
