History and achievements

FC BATE Borisov is a football club in Belarus, located in Borisov. It was established in 1973 and later, in 1996 the club was reorganized. In 1974, 1976 and 1979 the team won Belarusian SSR League.

BATE made their Belarusian Premier League debut in 1997, after they had won the third league in 1996 and the second tier in 1997. Since then the team has become Belarusian top team. They won Belarusian Premier League in 1999, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2006 and 2010 BATE won the domestic Cup trophies.

As the league winner the team competed in UEFA competitions since 1999/2000. They were the first team from Belarus, which qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stages where they met with Real Madrid, Juventus and Zenit St. Petersburg. In 2009/10 they were eliminated at the group stage, where they faced Benfica, Everton and AEK Athens. In the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League and past the group stage, reaching the round of 32. From there they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain, losing on the away goals.
