PFC Botеv Plovdiv is a football club in Bulgaria, located in Plovdiv. The club is named after the national hero of Bulgaria, Hristo Botyov. Before the team gained their current name, they had the names of Botev, DNV, DNA, SKNA, Botev and Trakia.
The team entered A group in 1951 but in 1953 they faced relegation. In a season they returned to the top flight. Their home ground is Hristo Botev Stadium. It was opened in 1961 and has a capacity of 18,000.
At the beginning of 1960s Dinko Dermendzhiev joined the team, he was one of the key players and helped the team to win the Bulgarian Cup in 1962 and the league title in 1967.
Botev had a prolific decade between 1980 and 1990. Five times they finished third in A Group and in 1986 they were runners-up, in 1981 they won Bulgarian Cup. In 1985 Botev qualified for the second round of the Cup Winners’ Cup campaign.
The following decade they had an average success and in 1999 Dimitar Hristolov became their owner. In 2000/01 the team dropped to B group, spent there a season and then promoted. But in 2004 they faced relegation again. Botev advanced the following season but they performance wasn’t impressive. In 2010 they relegated because of economic difficulties and in 2011/12 won promotion.
