NK Celje is a Slovenian football club founded in 1919 in the city of Celje.
Until 1991, the club competed in various Yugoslavian leagues and even recorded the Slovenian Republic Cup in 1964. After Slovenia got independence in 1991, they began to play in the newly formed Slovenian PrvaLiga. It’s a tidbit that Celje is one of only three clubs along with Maribor and Gorica who took part in all 21 PrvaLiga seasons since the league inception. However, despite this fact, the team have never claimed the title. They were extremely close to success in the 2002/03 season but eventually finished second after Maribor. Celje enjoyed better fortune in the 2004/05 campaign when they recorded the Slovenian Cup.
The team hold their home matches at Arena Petrol which can host up to 13,000 people.
