History and achievements
Celtic is a legendary Scottish club based in the city of Glasgow. The team was organized on 6 November 1887 at the meeting in St. Mary's church hall. Throughout its history the team has had strong ties with Catholicism; this aspect heavily influenced the rivalry with Rangers that are supported by Protestants.
Celtic claimed the title of the Scottish League 43 times. The first trophy of the national championship was grabbed in 1893, while the Scottish Cup was claimed a season earlier. Celtic won the Cup further 34 times in its history and also clinched 14 Scottish League Cups. Before World War I the club won the national championship 6 times, though it was under the helm of Jock Stein that came into the team in 1965 that the Glasgow team collected the league titles from 1966 to 1974.
The year 1967 went down in side’s history as the moment of glory when Celtic won quintuple including the Scottish League Championship, the Scottish League Cup, the Scottish Cup, the European Cup and the Glasgow Cup.
During last two decades the side enjoyed success at the home front with 14 titles, but the European record included only the silver medals of the European cup in 1970 and UEFA Cup in 2003.
The nicknames of the club are the Hoops, the Bhoys and the Celts.
The fan base of the club is estimated around nine million all around the world.The home stadium is Celtic Park that can hold up to 60,832.
