Central Español is a Uruguayan club from Montevideo founded in 1905.
The club made their debut in 1909 during the amateur era. In 1922, Central was one of the founding members of the Uruguayan Football Federation. In 1938, the team reached the third-place finish in the Primera División, the feat never accomplished before. In 1945, Nicolás Falero graced the club as the league top scorer with 21 goals in the season.
However, Central Español had their historic campaign in 1984 when they claimed their first Primera División title. The result seemed to be even more impressive considering that the team had just been promoted to the top flight after some period in the second division.
As of February 2013, Central hasn’t met with much success on the international arena. In 2006, they made a sole appearance in the Copa Sudamericana eliminating already after the first round.
The team play their home matches at Parque Palermo in Montevideo with the capacity of 6,000 spectators.
