Chornomorets is a Ukrainian football club from the city of Odessa.
The team was founded on 26 March 1936 under the title Dynamo Odessa. In 1940 the side merged with Pishchevyk and started competing in the lower divisions of the Soviet Championship. In 1958 the current name of the club was adopted. The farthest the club progressed in the Soviet Cup was the semi-final in the season 1965/1966.
The year 1974 saw the team clinching the bronze medals of the Soviet championship that gave the team a chance to participate in the UEFA Cup the following season.
The club was a founding member of the Ukrainian Premier League and in the inaugural season finished 5th in the table and two seasons later claimed the Ukrainian Cup. Despite sustaining relegation in the season 1997/1998, they bounced back quickly and now play in the tip league.
The club’s home arena is the 34,000-seater Chornomorets Stadium that was opened in 1935 and rebuilt in 2011.
